Beaded African Shield from Cameroon

R1,130.00

A Symbol of Heritage & Craftsmanship

Rooted in the rich traditions of the Tikar tribe in Cameroon, this exquisite decorative shield carries both historical significance and artistic mastery. Once used as a defensive weapon in wartime and later revered as a symbol of status and wealth, this shield embodies cultural pride and legacy.

Expertly hand-carved from a single piece of sacred Baobab wood, known for its medicinal and ritualistic properties, each shield showcases meticulous craftsmanship. Hundreds of hand-placed beads, elegantly strung on manila, form a mesmerising circular pattern surrounding a striking dimensional cluster of natural cowrie shells at its center. A bold silhouette is further emphasised by the row of cowrie shells along the edges, adding depth and authenticity to its design.
